Submitted procedure for termination of parental right for four street children

Seventy-five children were caught on the streets in Skopje, Kumanovo, Bitola and Prilep since Aug. 27 when the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy started the campaign, and measure for temporary shelter in institutions was conducted for 38 children. Procedures for termination of parental right were submitted in four cases and 16 decisions for permanent supervision over parental right were passed, Minister of Labour and Social Policy Spiro Risteski said at Saturday’s press conference.

Thirty-seven children were caught on the Skopje’s streets. Of them 28 were not accompanied by parent and were temporarily sheltered in adequate institutions, and nine children were on the streets with parents and with assistance of social workers were returned home, Risteski said.

Teams of the Social Work Centres in these operations give advices to parents on care and education of the children, health care, providing personal documentation of street children, also they point out on consequences on mistreating own children and sanctions which emerge as a result of such behaviour, Minister said.

Out of registered 37 children in Skopje, eight were returned in the families, eight use the services of the daily centre for street children and nine attend school.

Expert teams of Social Work Centres Special put special accent on supervision over parental right whose children are on the street mainly because of protection of the children’s personality, rights and interests through providing conditions for positive development.

Parents agreed their children to be included in the educational process if basic needs of children to attend school regularly are met, Risteski said. Aimed at preventing children to beg on the streets, parents of these children will be included in the operational employment plan for next year.
