The Government & ministries
The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia is the holder of the executive power in the Republic of North Macedonia, comprised of the Prime Minister of the Government, the deputies of the President and ministers. The Government is elected by the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, with a majority of votes from the total number of Members of Parliament, usually after parliamentary elections.
The current composition of the government was selected on 31 May 2017, after the parliamentary elections of December 2016. SDSM President Zoran Zaev received a mandate for the composition of the Government by the President Gjorge Ivanov. With 62 votes in favour, 44 against and 5 abstentions, the Parliament voted for the Government of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
The Government's mandate is to implement the political commitments provided for in the Programme for Work of the Government 2017-2020. More about the responsibilities of the Government can be found here. The government has several commissions, on the work of which you can read more about here.
The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia is Zoran Zaev. The President has 5 deputies:
- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense - Radmila Sekerinska
- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs - Oliver Spasovski
- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs - Kocho Andjusev
- Deputy Prime Minister, in charge of European Affairs - Bujar Osmani
- Deputy Prime Minister, and minister for political system and inter-community relations - Sadula Duraki
Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia
The Office of the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia was established on February 2, 2002, with an objective of assisting the President of the Government in the exercise of his rights and duties deriving from the Constitution, the Law and the Rules of Procedure of the Government.
General Secretariat of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia
The General Secretariat is a professional service of the Government that provides logistical and expert support to: the Government as a whole, the President of the Government, his deputies and ministers, with the objective of lawful, efficient and transparent operation of the Government. It was founded in 2000 under the Law on the Law on Government. The General Secretariat is headed by the Secretary General, assisted by the Deputy Secretary General.
Secretariats of the Government
The Government has 3 secretariats, which are established as separate expert services, whose purpose is to provide expert support and coordination of the work of the state administration bodies and other bodies and institutions.
General and Common Affairs Service
The Service performs general affairs and services for the needs of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, the ministries and the bodies within, secretariats and other professional services of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Constitutional Court of the RNM.
