Police seize record quantity of ecstasy pills

Macedonian police in coordination with the Bucharest-based Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) seized on Friday a record quantity of ecstasy pills - a synthetic drug - and busted an international ring of illicit trade in ecstasy and amphetamine pills.

During an operation dubbed "Techno", police raided a vehicle with Skopje register plates and an apartment in Veles. Law-enforcement officers have seized a total of 10.355 ecstasy and amphetamine pills, 300 grams of marijuana and nearly 50 grams of amphetamine powder. These drugs are believed to be worth over 80 thousand euros on the black market.

An international criminal group organised the transport of the drugs from Bulgaria to Macedonia and was most probably intended for the Macedonian and Kosovo market, Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska told a press conference on Saturday.

Criminal charges against one Bulgarian national and three Macedonians - residents of Skopje and Veles - will be brought today for selling and trafficking drugs.
