FM Poposki: European agenda in jeopardy due to irresponsible behavior

I believe there is cause for concern, taking into consideration the fact that the opposition has not send a message of putting the European agenda higher than the personal aspirations. I hope we will be able to use all instruments towards moving in a positive direction, said Thursday Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki regarding the international community statement over political developments in Macedonia.

"Messages by the international community are clear that institutions should not be ignored, diversity in positions is expressed within the institutions, and there is no justification for boycott of an electoral process", said FM Poposki after the meeting with Montenegro Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Luksic.

According to him, there is cause for concern since the country's European agenda is jeopardized due to irresponsible behavior, adding one should bear responsibility for its conduct.

Pertaining to the High-Level Accession Dialogue (HLAD) in light of recent events, he said the norm has been set in place.

"The HLAD aims at increased concentration on those crucial reforms where we have achieved notable results, acknowledged by the European Commission. As a result, the EC released the most positive report and a recommendation for start of accession talks. The HLAD is not a replacement for the negotiations. We expect the start of accession talks", added Poposki.

Regarding progress in the dialogue with Bulgaria, he reiterated that friendship is build through gestures and sincerity in relations. Working groups are to meet in the coming period, thus opening the possibility for meetings at the highest level towards achieving better results.

"We are open to enhancement of the legal framework, but we believe that better relations with our neighbors require mutual respect and balance in undertaken rights and obligations. This is the only way to raise relations at a higher level", underlined FM Poposki.
