Gruevski: Promise what you are able to fulfill

Be careful and responsible with your promises and be sure that you are able to fulfill them, VMRO-DPMNE leader and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told the future candidate for mayors and young people planning a career in politics.

"You must not forget to be careful while campaigning and being in a crowd that has many expectations from you. Make as many promises as you can fulfill and be sure. People don't forget, they remember. Do not think that if your political opponent makes plenty of promises, unrealistic ones that the people will fail to recognise that. People are wise and can tell when someone is sincere and speaking the truth," PM Gruevski said in his address at Sunday's final day of the political academy "Strengthening of the Local Democracy".

He though them to take care of their personal reputation, to be modest, hardworking, committed and to never forget the citizens.

"There are no easy and undeserving successes. It takes a lot of work, investment and knowledge as well as audacity to assume accountability, because there is no greater accountability than the one towards the citizens."

The leader of the ruling party said that VMRO-DPMNE according to latest polls would win the upcoming local elections "no matter if SDSM is going to partake or not."

"Look what in the past had happened to those who didn't tell the truth and thought of only how to win the trust of voters in the short run. VMRO-DPMNE is a party that thinks in the long run. Sometimes we lose as a result, but in the long run we gain a lot," PM Gruevski said.

The world of politics begins at local level and local development and the strengthening of institutional capacities are the key segment in the development of a democracy, according to him.

PM Gruevski concluded that Macedonia "needs strong municipalities that can immediately address the challenges of the citizens."
