At the moment Macedonia's unemployment rate is at lowest level - 24.5% - in the country's history. It was at 38.00% in 2006, which means the current figure indicates a substantial decline during periods of global economic and domestic political crisis, Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev told MPs on Thursday at the Q&A session.

The Government has been working on mitigating the consequences of these crises by creating jobs and attracting direct investments, he said.

Dimitriev notified the so-called operational employment plan, under which over 62,000 people have been recruited, as the most effective.

19,000 of them have been engaged under the 'Employing Macedonia' project, which, considering its success, is followed by a part 2, namely the 'Employing Macedonia 2", launched this June, the PM said.

He also presented the results of other measures under the employment plan, such as self-employment, training of unemployed in skills that are deficient on the labour market, support to the growth of SMEs with subsidized employment.
