Minister Kanceska-Milevska visits ethnological museum within Macedonian Village complex

Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska visited Thursday an ethnological museum as part of the Macedonian Ethno Village Complex in the Skopje village of Nerezi, funded by the government in a bid to promote Macedonia’s cultural heritage.

The museum, where custodians, guides and other experts have been employed, offers a display of unique, never seen before items dating from late 19th century and mid-20th century, including traditional wedding dresses with or without jewelry.

“It features national women’s costumes from different regions and from all ethnic communities in Macedonia. The display is enriched with over 150 unique ethnological items,” Kanceska-Milevska said adding the 2-storey museum also featured a hall where seminars, conferences and promotions would be organized.

The display, which offers artifacts owned by the Museum of Macedonia, will be changed every six months in order as many items to be displayed as possible.

The Macedonian Ethno Village complex has 12 houses authentic for the cities of Ohrid, Krusevo, Kratovo, Galicnik, Prilep, etc.

“They represent the architecture in Macedonia and the culture of living with its customs and crafts which can be seen in every house,” Minister Kanceska-Milevska said adding the houses featured pottery, filigree and weaving workshops.

The complex has been visited by 20,000 people since its opening in June.
