The State Cardiac Surgery Clinic marked two years since its team performed the first operation. At a press conference to mark the anniversary, clinic representatives said that they now perform between 20 and 30 surgeries per month, and have a 90 percent success rate during the dozen difficult, emergency cases they received.

"Our doctors have dreamt about this clinic for 40 years, and today it is reality and is developing well. During the first year the clinic had 25-30 surgeries in total, and now performs the same number each month. This indicates that it is growing quickly and is gaining its reputation and credibility among both patients and the professional public", Health Minister Nikola Torodov said.

Priority for the clinic now is to add three more anaesthesiologists and other staff. Clinic director Sasko Jovev said that they have performed a total of 230 surgeries so far, including 190 heart surgeries.
