PM Gruevski: EC investment package - main topic of EPP Summit

The European Commission's investment package - worth EUR 315 billion - was the main topic of the European People's Party (EPP) Summit, Macedonia's Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said Thursday in Brussels.

The event brought together the EU and non-EU heads of state and government and opposition leaders of EPP, along with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission – Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker.

The investment package has been the main topic of discussion and in this respect EPP doesn't only stand for granting funds, but also for their investment in sustainable budget and simultaneous structural reforms.

"The second main topic was related to the developments in Ukraine and its financial problems. In this respect the European Union's support, including the financial one, has been pinpointed. Some of the meeting attendants however consider that the present (EU) support is not sufficient, being less than half of what is needed," Gruevski said.

Gruevski said that at the event's sidelines he had informal meetings with many European heads of government, vice-premiers, and leaders of opposition parties, EC officials and EPP President Joseph Daul.

"I've also had my first meeting with the new Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, which resulted in an agreement on future working encounter, dedicated to the Republic of Macedonia," Gruevski said.

Tomorrow, Gruevski is scheduled to meet the new European Council President, Donald Tusk.
