Government to enhance violence prevention system

The Government will enhance the violence prevention system, especially involving firearms owned by individuals and officials. A working group is set to develop solutions and the Government will produce specific measures at the coming session, said Spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgjiev at Wednesday's press conference.

The objective is to make a step forward in preventing situations of using firearms given to an official in line with the jurisdiction of the profession.

"The Government has established a working group involving representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Supply, and other institutions, tasked with preparing a report within a week over the possibility of developing new regulations or enhancing the existing ones", said Gjorgjiev.

The law amendments should define the procedure in certain situations, in order to limit the access to firearms of an official suspected of a crime involving violence.

The Government reaction comes after the recent multiple murders in Kavadarci and Zletovo by individuals possessing official firearms that were used in the incidents.
