Macedonia, Slovenia to intensify cooperation in judiciary

Intensification of cooperation and experience exchange was in the focus of Monday's meeting between Macedonian and Slovenian justice ministers, Blerim Bexheti and Senko Plicanic respectively.

Interlocutors agreed that bilateral cooperation is good, but with possibilities for its enhancement.

"An efficient and independent judiciary is of enormous significance for a legal state. I believe there are numerous opportunities for cooperation and experience exchange. Slovenia can learn a lot from you, but also my country, being an EU member, can do a lot for Macedonia in the judiciary field", said Minister Plicanic after the meeting.

Minister Bexheti said Slovenian experiences could be used in the Law on Criminal Procedure, as well as mediation, where the Macedonian Government paid enormous attention.

"On the other hand, Slovenia could use Macedonia's experiences with regards to reducing the backlog of cases in courts. This is properly functioning in Macedonia, taking into account that about 400,000 cases are already out of courts", stressed Bexheti.

He voiced expectation that Slovenia would continue to support Macedonia in its Euro-integration process.

"Taking into consideration this period is very significant for Macedonia, with the High-Level Accession Dialogue on Chapters 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security), we expect further support from Slovenia in this field", underlined Minister Bexheti.
