Poposki-Reeker: Macedonia expects further enhanced support from the US

Macedonia expects further enhanced US support for the Euro-Atlantic integration process, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Poposki said at Tuesday's meeting with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, Philip Reeker.

Mr. Poposki briefed Mr. Reeker on reform processes in the direction of maintaining and upgrading the accomplishments which contribute for Macedonia to be valued as a credible partner to NATO, visible from participation in NATO missions and regional cooperation. By this, the Republic of Macedonia deserves full-fledged membership in the Alliance, Mr. Poposki said in a press release.

Regarding the name issue, the minister said that Macedonia remains open for dialogue with its southern neighbour and proactively tries to surpass the imposed obstacle which blocks our European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

He also referred to current activities and initiatives of the Republic of Macedonia on the international map, as well as regional cooperation whereat he presented the drafted priorities of the Macedonian Presidency of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

Mr. Reeker expressed satisfaction from the excellent bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the interest for development with the same dynamic in the future. He reaffirmed the well-known position of the US for sooner membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO.

Mr. Reeker positively assessed the progress of the High Level Dialogue between Macedonia and the EU, which is unreservedly supported by the US. Moreover, he stressed that the recent visit of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as well as his messages can contribute to faster coming to a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
