Gruevski to refrain from comments on name issue, proposes Samaras meeting

The Prime Minister's Office said Friday PM Nikola Gruevski would refrain from any comments referring to the name issue or those of essential significance in bilateral relations over the coming months. The objective is to limit the use of PM Gruevski's statements as alibi for defocusing from the bilateral dispute, but also to prevent their abuse by individuals and politicians in Greece.

"We are witnesses of harsh and non-constructive reactions from the Greek side related to the content of talks between PM Gruevski and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, thus demonstrating anxiety and unpleasantness from the truth rooted not in the positions presented by PM Gruevski, but in the Report by the UN SG's Special Representative for Human Rights, Mrs. Gay McDougall, whose remarks over the Macedonian minority in Greece and the displaced persons following the Greek Civil War were part of the talks. The truth noted in the report is truly unpleasant and we understand that the target is truly hit".

In the interest of enhancing dialogue between the two countries and creating a positive ambiance, PM Gruevski offers his Greek counterpart Andonis Samaras several dates for mutual meetings - August 2, August 15, September 2, September 15, but also any other date or place determined by the Greek side.

For the purpose of giving high priority to the issue, Gruevski expresses readiness to cancel any scheduled activities, travels or visits if they overlap with the date proposed by the Greek side.
