Gov't: Wine stores and financial support for wine tourism

Specially designed stores for Macedonian wines will be opened in attractive tourist resorts in Macedonia. Some of the funds will be provided by the government and the procedure to realize the project is to be launched on August 1st.

About 20 stores are planned to be opened in the first stage with the first one being inaugurated in 2013.

"The government has decided to implement a new project providing additional support to tourism and it will also be very beneficial for Macedonian companies. Entrepreneurs have promoted the idea and it has been accepted by the government," its spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev told a press conference on Thursday.

Stores will be located in the central areas of Ohrid, Struga, Dojran, Krusevo, Skopje, Bitola, Mavrovo, Popova Sapka, Kozuf and Gevgelija.

"The project is expected to positively affect the promotion of domestic wines, to boost the sales of Macedonian wines enabling conditions to be made to promote domestic wines to foreign tourists, which are the target group of this measure," Gjorgiev stated.

This project is amongst the many measures conceived in cooperation with wine manufacturers, according to him. "The government pledges to continue promoting wine tourism," the spokesman concluded.
