FM Poposki meets Turkish counterpart, Parliament Speaker in Ankara

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki held talks Tuesday in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Cemil Cicek.

Poposki and Davutoglu expressed satisfaction with the high-level Macedonian-Turkish relations, as well as readiness for bolstering the cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest at bilateral, regional and multilateral level, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

Poposki thanked Turkey on its sincere, continuous support of Macedonia and expressed hope that it would resume in the future. The Ministers reviewed the possibility for bolstering the economic cooperation and promotion of Macedonian products on the Turkish market. They agreed that the trade exchange, which is now at about US$400 million, should keep growing to soon reach one billion.

Turkey will voice its support of Macedonia's accession to NATO at the forthcoming Summit in Chicago, Davutoglu  said.

Today, the Ministers signed a bilateral agreement on travel conditions for the citizens of both countries, the press release reads.

The Poposki-Cicek meeting reaffirmed the traditionally good Macedonian-Turkish relations.

Cicek underlined the significance of further advancing of the parliamentarian cooperation. He also expressed strong support of Macedonia's swift accession to NATO.
