FM Poposki meets former US Secretary of State Kissinger

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, who is paying a few-day visit to the United States, held talks Tuesday in New York with Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Poposki and Kissinger shared opinions on strategic goals and challenges of the region of Southeast Europe. Poposki briefed Kissinger on current developments related to Macedonia's processes for joining the European Union and NATO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

The region's integration with NATO and the EU are vital for providing peace, stability and prosperity in Europe, Kissinger said at the meeting. The two agreed on the Balkan countries' need of continuous support in favor of their faster accession to the Euro-Atlantic family.

Today, Poposki also delivered an address on "Euro-Atlantic Integration: Towards Stability and Prosperity in the Western Balkans" at the Columbia University. In his address he mostly referred to Macedonia's progress in this process, as well as to the country's expectations to get a deserved invitation for NATO membership and a date for launching the EU accession talks, the press release reads.
