Electricity prices won't drop, citizens must save energy, urges Saracini

Citizens are advised to change their habits, to use electricity rationally and to make more attempts to save electricity, Economy Minister Valon Saracini urged on Wednesday, adding that the cost of electricity production was increasing and its prices would go up.

"Electricity prices won't drop for sure. On the contrary, prices are going to surge and therefore, efforts must be made for energy efficiency," Saracini told a press conference.

The Ministry of Economy recommends old light bulbs to be replaced with new ones that save energy, windows and ceilings in households to be isolated, energy saving appliances to be bought... These are some of the measures for saving energy proposed by the ministry in a new brochure "Save, Turn On Your Brain, Turn Off Electricity."

"With more efficient heating, more efficient isolation and lighting, from 20 to 40% of energy costs can be saved and thus the country will be able to save up to 700 gigawatt hours," Saracini said.

In 2012 the Ministry of Economy has singled out six million denars for subsides for solar collectors.
