Zaev-Mogherini: Progress in reforms to accelerate Euro-integration process

The new Government is committed to implementing the required reforms towards accelerating Macedonia's Euro-integration process, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

"The initiative over new dynamics of the Euro-integration process is in the interest of Macedonia's citizens. Our goal is to secure sufficient progress in the key reform areas by autumn, thus giving the European Commission sufficient arguments to present a new report before member-states, including a restored recommendation for the start of Macedonia's EU accession talks", said PM Zaev.

He stressed that good neighborly relations and regional cooperation based on mutual respect are in the government's focus. Interlocutors also highlighted the importance of opening chapters 23 and 24 of the pre-accession negotiations.

EU's Mogherini voiced firm support to the government's reform efforts, saying Macedonia has an ally in the EU in their implementation. She stressed that the EU is prepared to give back if reforms are implemented.

PM Zaev is accompanied by Vice Premier and Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska, Vice Premier for European Affairs Bujar Osmani and Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov.

During the visit to Brussels, Zaev also met with European Council President Donald Tusk and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn. Later today, he is scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
