Border crossings Medzitlija and Dojran open for truck tankers

Due to the blockade of Greek farmers at the Gevgelija - Evzoni border crossing, Macedonia's Government has decided to open the border crossings 'Medzitlija' and 'Dojran' to oil tank trucks.

The decision will be valid by 5 March 2017, Government's spokesman Aleksandar Gjorcev told a press conference on Wednesday.

Thus far, the truck tankers transporting oil derivatives have been entering Macedonia via the 'Bogorodica' border crossing. However, the traffic on this route has come to a halt due to a several-day blockade erected by protesting Greek farmers, which could bring about unfavorable financial implications to Macedonia's companies and national economy.

The temporary measure enters into force immediately, Gjorcev said. The Customs Administration is tasked to provide all necessary prerequisites for efficient functioning of the other two border crossings, he added.
