Dimitriev: China is interested in further investments in the region

Emil Dimitriev, Prime Minister in the caretaker Government, said that there is interest for future Chinese investment in Macedonia and the region overall, and that he will discuss with other countries present at the summit in Riga between China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries about the positive experience Macedonia has had with the infrastructure cooperation so far.

"This meeting in Latvia is an important event and Macedonia will speak about its experience in cooperating with the Chinese funds for highway construction, given that we are already actively accessing this program. I expect that other countries will also take active participation with specific proposals, so that this infrastructure development fund will fully serve its purpose. At the meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiant on Friday we agreed that the potential for cooperation is boundless, and I'm happy that China has found an interest to invest in the region", said Dimitriev.

In Riga, Dimitriev also met with the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, Boyko Borisov and Bohuslav Sobotka, and said that the meetings went in a positive atmosphere.

"With the Prime Minister of Bulgaria we discussed, primarily, on improving the economy and increasing our trade, and extending the road and railroad infrastructure. I can say that we had specific discussions on these issues and the approach was positive on both sides. I hope that in the future we will be able to close all open issues and to improve bilateral and regional cooperation", said Dimitriev.

At the meeting with Sobotka, Dimitriev said that the main topic was the migrant crisis, and the closure of the Balkan route by Macedonia, for which the Czech Prime Minister expressed his gratitude. "The Czech Republic will support Macedonia in our NATO and EU integrations. I pointed out that, after our elections are complete and we form a truly political Government, we will return to the real priorities of the Republic of Macedonia, which are our international integrations, growing the economy and improving the infrastructure. Macedonia is seen as a credible partner of the European Union and in this regard we discussed about assisting us in the EU integrations and in bringing foreign investment", said Dimitriev.

At the summit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki met with the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, and signed an agreement with China for visa liberalization for holders of official and diplomatic passports.
