20,000 jobs created in one year as unemployment drops 3%, says Dimitriev

Macedonia’s unemployment rate hitting a historic low level of 24.6% comes as a result of implementing the program and fulfilling the pledges given to the Macedonian people to reduce the unemployment – one of the government’s biggest priorities.

This was stated Friday by Emil Dimitriev, the premier tasked with organizing the upcoming elections, after a meeting with the management of the Employment Service Agency and heads of employment centers.

The unemployment rate dropped by 3% in one year alone, noted Dimitriev saying that over 20,000 jobs had been opened across the country.

“This is a great achievement for all the institutions involved. The reduction in unemployment is comes as a result of several measures and policies implemented by the government. Several institutions have been involved in this operation, however the Employment Service Agency can take full credit for this achievement,” stated Dimitriev.

Many jobs have been created as a result of the Agency communicating with companies interested in hiring new staff, according to the caretaker PM.

The companies are increasing their confidence with the Employment Agency, which plays a vital role in finding an adequate workforce, it was concluded in the meeting. This will result in reducing the unemployment rate even more, according to Dimitriev.

Participants in the meeting agreed to promote internships in companies, which will include high school students and university graduates so as to help companies find potential staff and provide adequate practice to interns.

Furthermore, the caretaker premier said that all future activities pointed out that unemployment would drop further as more foreign and local companies were expected to invest and existing companies to increase the scope of operations.

“This circumstance will also contribute to further increasing the salaries of workers,” stated Dimitriev, who attended the meeting alongside Deputy Labour Minister Dime Spasov and the director of the Employment Service Agency, Vlatko Popovski.
