FM Poposki meets German special envoy for SEE, Turkey and EFTA countries Reichel

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki and Special Envoy of the German Foreign Ministry for South-East Europe, Turkey and EFTA countries, Ernst Reichel discussed Thursday about challenges and perspectives of Macedonia’s European integration in light of the recently published EC Progress Report on Macedonia.

Poposki at the meeting underlined that Macedonia remains prepared for the process of accession negotiations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

Since 2009, when Macedonia was given the first recommendation by the European Commission to open negotiations with the EU, each year we are becoming more prepared for this process, Poposki said.

According to him, certain circumstances as blockades and internal frustration, especially the political challenge that is being overcome, is an additional reason for Macedonia to be enabled to start negotiations with the EU as soon as possible.

It will not weaken the Europe's principles or institutions, on the contrary it will strengthen the credibility of the European perspective, and for us it will be an inspiration to continue to fight for further progress, he said.

Poposki and Reichel discussed the implementation of the remaining obligations of the political agreement on the key priorities for strengthening the rule of law and economic development of the country, which remain to be in the focus of the Government’s activities.
