Defense Minister Besimi completes China visit

Defense Minister Fatmir Besimi, accompanied by Chief of Macedonian Army (ARM) Staff, Major-General Goranco Kotevski, paid a visit Friday to the Peacekeeping Operations Training Center within the Ministry of National Defense, thus completing the official visit to People's Republic of China.

Minister Besimi stressed the visit aimed at reviewing possibilities for utilization of training programmes for participation in international peacekeeping missions by ARM members, taking into consideration Macedonia's significant participation in such missions.

Macedonian and Chinese peacekeepers exchanged experiences, with Besimi and Kotevski referring to the participation of Macedonian troops in UN, NATO and EU-led missions.

"Republic of Macedonia assumes a solid spot in international missions, both from the aspect of percentage and quality. The country continues to take part in the missions, since it can represent all values and commitment towards global peace", said DM Besimi.

In the course of the visit to Beijing, Minister Besimi met with People's Republic of China Minister of National Defense, General Liang Guanglie and Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Military Commission, General Guo Boxiong, focusing on the strengthening of positive cooperation and opening of new possibilities for its enhancement, experience exchange with regards to reforms in field of defense and support in international peacekeeping missions.

Minister Besimi and General Kotevski also visited the National Defense University.
