Defense Minister Besimi meets Chinese counterpart Guanglie

Strengthening of positive cooperation and opening of new possibilities for its enhancement, experience exchange with regards to reforms in field of defense and support in international peacekeeping missions were in the focus of Thursday's meeting of Defense Minister Fatmir Besimi with People's Republic of China Minister of National Defense, General Liang Guanglie and Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Military Commission, General Guo Boxiong.

Minister Besimi stressed after the meeting that discussions also referred to the opening of post Macedonian military attache in PR China, which would be of exceptional importance in the strengthening of relations between the two ministries.

"We expressed gratitude for China's international support, i.e. Macedonia's recognition under the constitutional name, as well as support in all processes on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration", said Besimi.

Chief of Macedonian Army (ARM) Staff, Major-General Goranco Kotevski, said the Beijing meetings represented a confirmation of prior cooperation, providing fresh impetus to future relations.

"ARM will continue to cooperate with the Chinese army, especially in the area of experience exchange in peacekeeping operations and training of special units", said Kotevski.

Minister Besimi and General Kotevski also visited today the National Defense University.

On Friday, the Macedonian delegation will visit the Peacekeeping Operations Training Center.
