Pesevski expects heating wood market to stabilize in the coming days

Deputy Prime Minister Vlado Pesevski said on Saturday that he expects the heating wood market to stabilize in the coming days and for prices to be reduced down to the levels from 2014. Pesevski said that the public utility company Macedonian Forests has increased delivery of wood for the heating season, and will import, if necessary, to reduce the prices.

"Given the increase in demand, Macedonian Forests is preparing to make up the shortage in supply with import, in coordination with the Government. Deliveries are increased and we see that the market in Skopje is being stabilized. We expect to see full normalization of the situation in the market", Pesevski said during a visit to a lumber warehouse in Petrovec.

As for the privately owned companies that trade with firewood, Pesevski said that Macedonian Forests is the largest player in the market, and its increased delivery will lower the prices in other companies as well. Utility manager Zarko Karadzoski said that the company has delivered 70.000 cubic meters of firewood since the beginning of September, with private companies adding 25.000 cubic meters. That, Karadzoski said, should be enough to satisfy demand in the market.
