Kanceska-Milevska visits Gradiste archaeological site near Negotino

The research at the archaeological site of Gradiste, near Negotino have been conducted with the support of the Ministry of Culture. Moreover the site is also developed as an international project which besides domestic also includes archeologists and professors from Poland and from Valencia Institute in Spain.

Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska – Milevska during her Wednesday’s visit to the site said that the Culture Ministry and the Government will continue to support the research of Gradiste.

The purpose of the archaeologists is the locality which confirms Antigonea city. The site dates from 4th, 5th century BC and is the early ancient settlement. The site can see the excellent infrastructure that is discovered during the research - many houses, roads, and other infrastructure. I hope that archaeologists will achieve results in the coming period, she said.

She also visited Museum of Negotino which included numerous artifacts as fragments from ceramics, valuable items, decorative ceramics which were unearthed during the research.

She informed that this year other important project - reconstruction, restoration and conservation of the clock tower in Negotino has begun. She pointed out that it is an important symbol of the city and funds were allocated from the ministry’s budget to the competent institution - the National Conservation Centre in collaboration with the Museum of Negotino.

Kanceska – Milevska pointed out that Culture Ministry supports projects of the Cultural Center as a national institution, and the museum and the library as local institutions, because, one of the priorities is exactly local cultural development that is continuously supported through projects and infrastructure.
