New water supply system to resolve decades-long issue in Skopje settlement

The residents of two settlements in North Skopje will get a new water supply system by mid-2016 after the launch of construction works in the municipality of Suto Orizari.

The start of construction works was marked Monday by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Deputy PM and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski, Skopje mayor Koce Trajanovski and Suto Orizari municipal mayor Elvis Bajram.

“Local residents have been tackling the water supply issue for decades being frequently faced with water restrictions. This was the biggest issue in the municipality of Suto Orizari,” PM Gruevski said.

The project, ‘one of the largest and most beneficial in the City of Skopje’, is worth close to three million euros.

Several projects, he added, have been implemented in the Suto Orizari municipality, including a new multifunctional playground, the completion of two elementary schools, new high school building, etc.

“The philosophy of this government stricture is work and only work. When a project finishes, another one is launched. This is the only way to realize what hasn’t been realized before,” stressed Gruevski.

The municipality of Suto Orizari will get a water supply providing clean drinking water for more than 20,000 residents, Deputy PM Stavreski said adding that the decades-long issue would be settled ‘once and for all’.

Teams of the Bulgarian construction company “Hydrostroy JSC” will work on the construction of the new water supply system in Suto Orizari.
