Gruevski: Damage compensation launched, farmers to insure crops

The Government has allocated EUR 22 million for citizens who had suffered damages during the spring floods, EUR 12 million of which for property compensation, while EUR 10 million for overhaul of damaged infrastructure, said Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski during Saturday's visit to Bitola and Novaci.

"The compensation for Novaci citizens who had suffered damages to their crops and homes, was launched today. All funds are to be paid over the next couple of days", said PM Gruevski.

According to him, citizens from other municipalities will be compensated in the coming days and weeks.

"My promise in April regarding 100-percent flood compensation is materializing. On this occasion, I would like to point to the significance of farmers making insurance of crops a habit", said Gruevski.

He stressed the full compensation is an exception, since Macedonia was hit by the heaviest floods for the past 35-40 years.

"However, farmers need to insure their crops. Analyses carried out together with the Association of Farmers has shown that an average family of farmers makes profit of about EUR 700, while insurance costs only EUR 7-8", underlined PM Gruevski.
