Macedonia's recognition for its participation in ISAF mission to be crowned with membership: FM

Macedonia, after presenting key conclusions and being constantly recognised for its involvement in the Afghan ISAF mission, should be crowned with a NATO membership, Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki stated Thursday in Brussels.

His statement comes after Wednesday's final statement of the North Atlantic Council reaffirming NATO's open door policy for all aspirant countries.

Referring to the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago next year, Poposki argued that "Macedonia has additional arguments, despite making concrete efforts on the field, sending political messages and aiming to establish legal safety."

FM Poposki attended Thursday a meeting of foreign ministers of ISAF mission contributing nations.

Talks focused on future activities and NATO's role in Afghanistan during the transition and post-transition period.

"The Macedonian army has been praised for its participation in the mission and its troops are also training the Afghan army and police," Poposki stated.
