Prime Minister Gruevski says it's now beyond doubt that Zaev worked with former spy chief Verusevski

Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said that further evidence coming out proves there is a relationship between former spy chief Zoran Verusevski and the leader of the opposition Social Democrat Union (SDSM) Zoran Zaev, which raises serious questions over the audio tapes Zaev has been releasing to the public in almost a month. Zaev claims that he was given material from insiders in the Macedonian secret services who were asked to spy on opposition and Government officials, but according to the confession from one of the police officials charged in the case, the wiretapping was organized by former head of the UBK security agency Zoran Verusevski, who led the agency during the time SDSM was in office.

"Months ago Zaev claimed that he has never met Verusevski. Then he said that they know each other but only in passing. And now he has confirmed that they know each other very well. At first we saw a letter exchanged between them and Zaev kept quiet about it, then he confirmed it's authentic and that he wrote it to Verusevski. Now we have coded phone text messages which Zaev eventually confirmed are also authentic. And lastly, he confirmed that he was planning to buy a computer and a car to this person he initially said he doesn't know personally. There are many people who worked against the Government, but I haven't heard that Zaev was buying them all cars and computers", Gruevski said, adding that it is clear that Zaev is lying his way through the espionage scandal.
