Another twelve books were promoted Saturday as part of a project for translation of 1,000 reference and textbooks used at world’s leading universities.

Thus far, 919 books have been translated in several fields, including maths, philosophy, electronic and mechanical engineering, computer sciences, business management, arts…

Most of the books promoted today are in the field of IT and computer sciences and electronic and mechanical engineering.

Attending the promotion together with deputy education minister Spiro Ristovski, PM Nikola Gruevski said that these two fields were of utmost importance for Macedonia.

“Macedonia has been working hard on IT development. Starting with the procurement of computers and Internet for the students, general and massive education of the population to use computers and Internet, mass implementation of IT opportunities in administrative services, then by inaugurating new departments, faculties and a new university of information sciences and technologies in Ohrid and finally by awarding many scholarships to encourage many young people to study information sciences and technologies,” stated Gruevski.

Experts in technical sciences, he added, are of particular importance for the country since there is a deficit on the labour market.

“They are largely wanted by local and foreign companies. For this purpose, the Macedonian government has been taking measures to encourage young people to study technical sciences,” he noted.

The translation project will be expanded with additional 200 books, it has been announced.
