FM Poposki: Relations with neighbors, economic diplomacy to top 2015 priorities

The numerous diplomatic-consular offices have contributed to the decisions for investments in Macedonia. This year should be measured by this fact and is therefore very successful and encouraging, said Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki at Monday's meeting with heads of the country's diplomatic-consular offices abroad.

"We would be satisfied if economic success is even bigger in 2015, accompanied by constructive communication with all countries, especially our neighbors", said Poposki.

He stressed that relations with neighbors are important for a small country like Macedonia.

"This is one of the foreign policy priorities in 2015 beside EU integration", added FM Poposki.

Another priority is economic diplomacy, followed by intensification of activities concerning Macedonian nationals living abroad.

Poposki said is was encouraging to see the stance of new enlargement commissioner Johannes Hahn, who said the European Commission recommendations and their neglect by the European Council was not attainable and Macedonia must be given the opportunity for legitimate progress in the EU accession process.

"The High-Level Accession Dialogue enables our continual efforts in the implementation of reforms, in anticipation of favorable climate in Athens, so that law and arguments overcome the bilateral dispute. The ambassadors will hold meetings with the country's top officials during the week, receiving recommendations over activities in 2015", said Poposki.

According to him, economic diplomacy is the most significant issue from the aspect of investment attraction and export opportunities. Non-resident ambassadors based in Skopje will be appointed for countries and markets that have potential for cooperation.

Pertaining to activities related to Macedonian nationals living abroad, Poposki referred to the pilot-project over issuance of deeds by several diplomatic-consular offices as of next year. Moreover, the info-center available 24/7 to all Macedonian nationals will be launched in 2015, along with the project of mobile stations for issuance of travel documents for Macedonian nationals living abroad.
