Language is a significant segment of a nation's cultural legacy. It is a component determining the people's origin, its past, making global identification impossible without it. Therefore, the content of the Thesaurus of Macedonian Language is an invaluable wealth for our nation, said Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska in her address at Wednesday's promotion of the sixth volume of "Thesaurus of Macedonian Language".

"Today's promotion is very significant, since the project's completion has produced a work that carries within the information, the proof, the facts about the uniqueness and distinctiveness of our language from others, its rich lexis, syntax and color. The creation of the thesaurus is a historic act that all of us, and generations to follow, will be proud of", said Kanceska-Milevska.

Project manager, professor Snezana Velkovska said the process developed in several stages during a span of 14 years and hoped that the project would get a digital edition.

Institute for Macedonian Language director, professor Elena Jovanova-Grujovska said the project encircled a 40-year project of the institution that has involved a number of scholars.

According to her, the project would represent a good foundation for bilingual dictionaries, master and PhD theses.

The edition authors are 20 linguists-experts in Macedonian language. The Ministry of Culture funded the volumes' printing process.
