Macedonian Government open for talks with OSCE

Macedonia values the role of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and is ready to discuss all issues based on principled positions and on specific arguments, and not intuitions, Government spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgjiev said at a press conference on Friday, after American Ambassador to the OSCE Daniel Baer expressed his concern about the wiretapping scandal in Macedonia.

"OSCE is a partner organization to the Republic of Macedonia. We share its  concern and we believe that we need to discuss jointly, on principled grounds, based more on arguments and less on intuition, on the issues which we may sometimes have different positions on. What is important is that we have common goals, and the goal of the Government of Macedonia is to secure the progress, welfare and development of the Republic of Macedonia", Gjorgjiev said, asked by the press about the comment made by Ambassador Baer. Gjorgjiev added that Macedonia has been working on reforms and projects together with OSCE since its independence and this includes all areas of society.

In his statement made in Vienna, Ambassador Baer said that he has noted the serious allegations about independence of media and judiciary in Macedonia. Baer blamed the Government of exercising influence on the media coverage of the situation regarding the wiretapping allegations.
