107 of the planned 150 railroad freight cars for the Macedonian Railways fleet have already arrived and it is an investment in amount of EUR 14 million, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said Friday.

“The project on procuring new 150 freight cars is nearing its completion. 107 cars have already arrived in Macedonia and another 43 are set to arrive in the coming few months, thus completing the project in which EUR 14 million were invested,” Gruevski told reporters after inaugurating a sports hall in the village of Ljubanci.

The renewal of the Macedonian Railways fleet with new train cars will mean a lot for the country and the private sector, according to him.

The planned passenger cars should arrive in mid-2015 i.e. from July to January next year, the Premier said. “It is also a vital investment costing more than EUR 25 million.”

“All in all, it is a major investment in railroad transportation and the biggest one in the history of Macedonia in relation to procurement of train cars,” Gruevski noted.

The government plans to completely wrap up the project on renewing the entire fleet of the Macedonian Railways in 2018.
